I'm a commercial photographer. I was contacted by this outfit regarding a fashion shoot they needed. They offered me my day rate, plus expenses. So far, so good. Then they asked me to pay the talent agency with money they would send me. It's a bit of a story, but it boils down to the fact that they send me a check for $4900, $1000 as my retainer, the balance to be deposited in my account so I could send payment to the modeling agency, Chantre Talent (Who happens to not have a website). I played along just to see what would happen. My bank took one look at the check and said it was a scam. They said what would happen is that I'd deposit the check, pay the modeling agency, and in the meantime the check would be stopped by the scammer (Is that a word?). The bank said something about checks for less than $5000 being handled in such a way that there would be enough time for my check to the agency to clear, and the scam check to be stopped by the scam guy. At any rate, if I had been less skeptical and just gone ahead with the deal, I would have been responsible for the check I had written to the so called modeling agency and I would not have received the money from the scammer. I hope I'm making sense, it's sort of hard to describe briefly. I've attached the first email I received from them.
