To start, I do not know how this company had reached me. I was applying for jobs on May 28th, 2016 through June 3rd, 2016 on Craigslist. All the jobs I applied for via email have titles such as 'receptionist' or 'office clerk.' I have provided a screenshot of my sent emails on these days. I received a call from Plantnium Aquistitions Inc on June 2nd, 2016 stating that they have a receptionist position available and want to start an interview in order to determine if I was right for the job. I was very excited and scheduled the interview for the following day. On June 3rd, 2016, I am greeted by Ashley Uleberg. She explains that the company I applied for is a marketing firm that partners with companies such as Verizon, Habitat for Humanity, and Doctors Without Borders. Ashley also mentioned that there were two positions that they are looking to fill, a receptionist job and a manager job. Thus, I was very interested in either position. I was most intrigued by the receptionist job that I THOUGHT I signed up for. Ashley scheduled me for a second interview. She explained that it will help the company decide if I was the right fit. Today, on June 7th, I had my second interview. When I first arrived, their small lobby was filled with younger adults just like me. All eager for a job. When I told the receptionist I was there for a second interview she told me to sign a waiver. The waiver was odd because it explained that I consent to not being paid for the day. I reiterated that I was here for a receptionist position and wanted an interview. She explained this was standard procedure. Finally after some time, a young man calls me in and introduces me to another young man and tells me that he will train me for today. I am very confused but I go along with it. My trainer asks me where my car is, I tell him. Then he says that we are all meeting at a larger location to discuss the nature of the business. Again, I am very skeptical at this point but I agree. I pick up two other passengers for my trainer and we drive into a low-income neighborhood. When we all get out of the car, my trainer takes me door-to-door to each home. I realize that we are campaigning for the company of Verizon. I am very confused and he tells me that this is standard. I was taken at the office at 12:30 PM and four hours later we take a break from going door-to-door. We sit a pizza parlour that is close-by so he can discuss the nature of the business. Finally, after four hours he explains that I have to go door-to-door for the standard procedure. He is confused when I tell him that I wanted a receptionist position and to not be a marketing agent. He tells me that if I want to work in an office setting I have to go through years of training. I explain to him that this is not what I am looking for and that I will leave. At this point, it is 5:00 PM. I am ready to leave because I felt lied to. He provided me with documentation about how the 'process' goes and apologizes for Ashley's miscommunication. He convinces me to stay for another three hours. When the clock strikes 8:00PM we all go back to the office. I am asked to fill out a survey and demand questions. All the other people filling out surveys were just as confused as I was. One stated, "I came here for an internship...not a full-time job." Another remarked, "They told me I would work in an office, not harassing people." No one answers my questions about the receptionist position and they told me they will call me back for a job.
