I am an undergraduate student applying for my first job. I applied for a job in the computer science field on a job board, I forget which, and Samantha Huntchinson claiming to be an artist sent me an email about a job opportunity being a personal assistant. She never asked for any personal information such as my SSN, so I went along with expressing interest in the position. She said she would send me a check with which to purchase equipment and it would also contain a sign-on bonus. I received the check, but what was suspicious was that the check was from Peapack Gladstone Bank in NJ, it was sent from TX, the name of the person from whom the mail was delivered was Jeff Rios (or Kios, it's a little illegible), there is a company name 'Plasson USA' on the Fedex package containing the check, and I was to send an email to someone I hadn't heard of before once I received the check. All communication has been through a personal gmail account (not a company account) and phone. I'm not sure of the location of this scam since it was online. I talked to the non-emergency police number and they too believe this might be a scam where the check would bounce after a few days and I would have had to spend my own money on purchasing the equipment and would ultimately have to send it to the scammers to be sold as stolen goods under my name.
