Phishing Email - Fake Bill Reports & Reviews (1)

- Newton, IA, USA • Jun 01, 2023

I received an email with a bill attached stating $475.75 was being taken from my checking account and gave me the phone number to call to cancel this charge. I called the number because I don't use PayPal or Norton. The man I spoke to got me to open my bank browser and there it showed the charge directly to my account. Then I was taken to a screen to do a cancellation and refund. When I typed in the amount of the refund, it kept getting changed. Then all of a sudden, the man said it had credited me $7000.00. Panic on their side of the conversation. I was then switched to a "Lead" named Mike- Wilson, employee #gm110w, contact #415-754-7280. Throughout the conversations, I was told they were protected by ScamPulse.com and used your logo. I was shown my bank account page showing the $475.75 charge and the $7000 credit. Mike wanted me to go to either Walmart or Target and get gift cards for the $6,524.25. While I kept saying I felt this was a scam, of course, they assured me it wasn't. At this point, I hung up on them and contacted my bank. Upon the customer service agent at my bank, the above-mentioned charge and credit did not show on my account. I was able to close my accounts and reopen new ones before any money could be taken.
