I had inquired about a place of rent from my school's housing database website. I found a place and had direct contact from the landlord via email and phone conversions, including texts. I had given him a predetermined amount to secure housing for my stay in Washington DC. He had stated he would come pick me up from the airport. We had constant contact till the day before I arrived to DC. Once I landed I contacted him many times via phone (including text messages) and email to inform him about my arrival. He never responded. I continuously contacted him trying to get my money back however he has completely ignored my attempts to contact him. I contacted the website which my school uses to help students find housing, I forwarded them the listing number and they informed me that many students had also been scammed by this very person. My school is Ross University, the website they use for their housing database is renthello.com. The fraudulent landlord's name is Phillip Gatton, his email being [email protected] and [email protected]. His phone number is (631)296-0350. We both signed a 6 page contract in which he states a "lawyer" had written up for him. He also used his "lawyers" bank account for the money to be transferred into. They are (3):

During our initial conversions he had given me these bank accounts to transfer money into. I am not sure what can be done at this point but it seems like this person has scammed many students in similar position as me. If anything can be done to put a stop to this I will gladly help. Also if any other information is needed I would gladly send it over as well. Thank you for taking the time to read this complaint.
