As a college student I went on the school regulated website and filled out information and sent my resume looking for a potential job. I received an email a day later asking if I was interested in a administrative assistant position that paid $350 a week and an undergrad could do it part-time working from home. If I was interested I should reply back to the message with my name, address, email address, age, sex and phone number. I did and received an email at about 2:30am with information about the job and company with a link to their website that did not work so I searched the company name and pulled up a website and a twitter and Facebook account for the company so it seemed legit. It was kind of late in my opinion to be receiving company emails.They mentioned that I would be in charge of ordering supplies for 12 reps, they are a European and Canadian based consulting firm and I would be paid every Friday by cheque. They did not recommend direct deposit and stated that none of my money would be used for company expenses or hidden fees and charges. They did not ask for my personal information like my account information, or my SSN# so again I thought this was an okay thing. But when doing research on scams there was some grammatical errors and they didn't require much experience except have an email, be computer literate and able to keep records. They emailed me and asked 'how soon I could start?' I said a day after receiving that email and was told I would be receiving a check to order supplies for their representatives via UPS that included a check with my $400 salary upfront and the rest was for supplies but they wanted me to deposit the check into my personal account and inform them when the check would clear 24/48 hours. It was then I knew this didn't seem right. What kind of legit company wants you to use your personal account to deposit a check to order and send supplies Now the check I was able to track it and has arrived at my apartment and I am unsure what to do with it. Send it back, destroy it or give it to authorities. I sent the company I believe to be a scam an email informing them I no longer had interest in employment and will return or destroy the check. As a criminal justice minor the last thing I want is to be involved with anything illegal like money laundering.
