I posted an ad on Care.com searching for a new nanny. I was contacted by a woman named Melissa, who said she was moving back to my neighborhood and just wrapping up with a current family. She had an incredible background and resume. She gave me her email address because she said she was quitting Care.com because of a bad experience. I emailed her and she asked that I speak with her "nanny consultant" Elle Clairmont first to be vetted. Elle was very charming and effusive and told me about her services working on behalf of high-end nannies. Melissa and I continued to email but then she said her current family was in a car accident and decided they needed her to stay after all. She offered to put me back in touch with Elle. I had already filled out the family information on Elle's website and Elle reached back out to me by email. She offered to help our family, sent a brochure along with some nanny resumes (which were all incredible) and the next day sent me a contract for services. I then Googled information on Penelope's Nannies and discovered a parent thread describing the exact same set of circumstances but using a different nanny name. It was then clear that it was a scam.
