Peler Tech Reports & Reviews (3)

I opened up my laptop and it said the computer was infected and I needed to call a number. I called a number and they said they fixed the problem and it would cost 180.00. They have called me twice for the money. They put all of this hardware on my computer and said it was safe from viruses. I looked on the Microsoft website and they do everything themselves. When the guy called the second time I told him it was a scam and would be reporting it.

My computer indicated a warning from Microsoft that it was infected by a virus and that they would not allow it to be used unless I called the number listed. The message indicated it was Microsoft sending the message.

When I called, the tech person indicated they were representing micro soft, which I late found out to be not true, Micro soft does not lock your computer like this. The tech said all my devises, were infected, and warned me not to take the computer to a tech service, such as Geek Squad, but instead he could connect me to someone who could"fix" the compute along with everything else. I was connected to a Peler Tech representative who asked me for access to my computer, which I unfortunately did. After removing my existing security software, and more than an hour later, the company said my computer as fixed and the bill would be more than $500, which they did indicate before hand. The bill was originally going to be almost $900, but I said I could not pay that, so the fee was reduced. They tried to insist that I send a check by federal express, which I indicted I did not want to do. After repeated attempts to get me to agree to this, the representative finally stopped telling me to send payment this way.

These people misrepresented themselves as Microsoft people,as well as being recommended by Microsoft. I suspect there was nothing wrong with my computer. I hope none of my accounts have been compromised.

I deleted files that they installed and installed new anti virus software. Hopefully my computer is not ruined.

Luckily I did not pay the way they wanted so I am not out of a lot of money, yet.

While using the internet, a sudden alert appeared on the screen along with a loud beeping noise claiming that a harmful virus was detected by Microsoft and that I needed to contact the provided number immediately to resolve the issue. I called the number, spoke with a man who asked for remote access to my computer, claimed to have found a "zeus trojan virus", said my IP address was compromised and transferred me to a Level 6 associate. I transferred to "Alex". He said he can fix my computer and protect it with a security plan that will cost me $323.40. I was advised that it was safer to send a check. A fed ex guy was sent to my house to pick up the check. A couple of days later I had another issue. I called the same number, another associate asked for remote access, "fixed" the problem, Alex called me back accusing me of threatening to cancel the check, which I did not do. His tone was accusatory and belligerent. I hung up with a very bad feeling in my gut, I did some research and found consumer complaints that were very similar, if not exactly, like my experience. I quickly contacted my bank, cancelled payment on the check, and scanned my computers for any malware. Beware! These people want your money! I have learned to never allow anyone remote access to your computer. The address I sent the check to is a townhouse in Maryland, not a place of business.
