Type of a scam Rental
Finally they said they signed a contract with Airbnb and
"the keys are in their custody. To open a reservation through Airbnb, I need your contact information (name, address, phone number). Once the booking is approved, you will receive an email from Airbnb with all the rental information along with payment instructions to secure the apartment.
After you send the payment deposit to Airbnb, you'll be contacted by an Airbnb agent to agree on a suitable date and time to view the property. For long-term rentals, Airbnb requires a deposit in order to arrange the inspection and it consists in first month rent and security deposit (security deposit is refundable at the end of lease). The payment is a simple formality and by paying you are not obliged to rent the apartment, as Airbnb wants to have a confirmation that you have the funds available if you decide to rent the property. They will hold the funds until you will inspect the property, so both parties are fully protected.
Please note, if you do not like the apartment, you can refuse and Airbnb will refund you without charges."
Just before I had received their email asking for funds without even a showing, I had stopped by the address of 36 Galleon St as I live just a few blocks away. I was informed by the next door neighbor that a family owns that apartment, and lives there, and that the listing was fraudulent.
I will leave this family a letter explaining what happened. I think they should know their address is being used to solicit fraudulent money. I also called the police but was told since I did not actually give any money to them I was not a victim therefore I could not report the crime. But they did say to report it to you. I also contacted West Side Rentals and they assured me they would remove the listing immediately.
