A pop-up will come up and a screen will start speaking to you saying that you have contracted a virus and to call a number. DO NOT CALL THAT NUMBER!! You do not have a virus. If you have called the number, they will get you to pay them a fee of $100 to fix the problem and then they will ask for access to your computer. They fiddle for a bit and then say that they fixed it, when in fact there was nothing to be fixed.

This company is a front for a 'scareware' scam that identifies a fake virus on a users computer under the guise of Microsoft. The user is lured to call 855-676-0533 in order to get assistance and the user, believing they are calling Microsoft, does. In this particular case the call center was definitely in India and the user only realized the scam AFTER the company collected her Credit Card number with security code AND was allowed to log into the target computer. Luckily the user contacted a trusted advisor, who indicated that this company was running a scam. The affected computer has been scanned and the credit card cancelled. Further investigation of the 855 number shows that it belongs to 2 websites, PC Take Care and Indian Folk Paintings at www.indianfolkpaintings.com. The user is in the process of changing her passwords on her banking and shopping websites, in case information was stolen off the computer.
