Someone from this number called me. I do not answer with the phone number called but called back from a different phone number. The man knew my name which made me think it is a legitimate call. But he wanted to install something on my firewall. ??? Nope. No one is going to install anything remotely on my computer. "Oh, no, not on your computer; on your firewall." Nope. Not going to allow that either. I do not have any problem going on with my computer, so why this call? "We noted a third party attempt to (unintelligible) on your system. Didn't you see it?" "No." "Good-bye." He did not ask for money because I did not give him the opportunity.

Sounded Indian (and NOT Native American Indian). He said I signed up for 2 years with them but darned if I remember this. He said call back when I have time.

The number given (and received on my phone) was 1-888-481-9111.

I have been contacted over and over by these people telling me that I need to give them remote access to my computer so they can fix a error message that they keep geting from my computer. They sent me to a web site to check out if they are legit or not. The company is legit but these scammers do not work for them. They keep telling me that I paid them $75.00 back in May to fix my computer and keep it bug free and running right. I do not remember paying anyone to do that. I have HP support and McAfee. why would I need to buy more ? These people keep calling me over and over. They do not take no for an answer.

The person who scammed me claims to be a tech support company that uses simple techniques to suggest to a computer user that their computer is being targeted by international hackers. The caller then goes on to claim that they can install software that will prevent these alleged hackers from corrupting the computer network. I cannot say what company this user has been calling from, because the company changes occasionally. During my first contact from these people, they claimed to be from a company called Web Craft Global, which might have been located in Pennsylvania or New Jersey. Because they are using legitimate names with fraudulent intentions, tracking them is not easy. Once they have made contact with you, they begin to weave their tale about how infected your computer is and then proceed to gain control of the terminal via an external website such as 'helpme.com' and other third-party link software. Then, while you watch, they run a few commands and attempt to show you files that are 'corrupted'. As an example, they ran a file tree - my own files - in a rapid fashion and attempted to show me that they were all corrupted, which I know they are not. From there, they propose a contract to continually 'thwart' these so-called hackers. In truth, they are simply cold calling customers, installing a sense of fear into them, taking their money and then installing bogus third-party software that does nothing more than leave clues for real hackers to continue corrupting a user's data. But that's not the worst part. These people then give away your phone number and information to other scammers just like them. That's likely where they make their money. So you say you don't trust them? They direct you to this BBB site and suggest that the company with the A+ rating, like PC Expert, is them. Hence, PC Expert is not to blame. I contacted them during my exchange with the scammer in question. He said people have been using his name for years, and that he can scarcely go to the police when there's no way to track these people, for they frequently change origin numbers and use faulty addresses or IPs. Bottom line, your best defense is to never give a moment's attention to these people. Legitimate tech support companies do NOT call you out of the blue unless you first contact them. Second, legitimate companies will never ask you to install software unless there is a specific purpose for it to be there. And third, they will never sell your information to people just like them who are in the game only to take your money. These scammers have said that I have a contract with them and that I have their proprietary 'software', which is likely not theirs in any way, and is likely freeware that serves other purposes. Anything they have installed I have promptly deleted, followed by a full scan of my system. (As of today, it is working fine, despite threats to the contrary, weird.) However, I also know that if they want to actually pursue this avenue of intimidation on me, that they would have to provide a legitimate address and phone number in order to pursue the legal process. Thus, they will never do this because they themselves are not legitimate. My advice to anyone who encounters these people is to use your caller ID system or your phone company to KNOW who is calling you and do whatever it takes to avoid the calls entirely. They may have got away with $100 of my money that I can never recover, but one of their buddies took me for $900 later that I was fortunate enough to recover with the aid of my banking credit union. DO NOT GIVE THEM A MOMENT OF YOUR TIME and hang onto your hard earned money. Thank you.
