On Dec. 10, 2020, my husband received an email from a company claiming to have auto-renewed our Norton Security for a period of 5 years at a cost of $492.99. This amount was said to be deducted from our bank account within 48 hours. He called to cancel and was con into allowing access to our personal computer. From their the "thieves" transferred money unknowingly from our savings account into our checking account and stated that they had OVER REFUNDED us by $4400. (the amount of money transferred). They then instructed my husband to go to WalMart and purchase gifts cards in this amount, $4400, so that they can be "refunded" for the "over-payment" of our refund. UGH. NIGHTMARE - preying on the elderly and unknowing. My husband called me at work, explained what had happened. I immediately left work, closed bank accounts, had the computer sent to be wiped clean and have been dealing with all of our auto-pay accounts to get switched to new bank account. Unfortunately, there were a few payments that tried to hit our old account, but we had overdraft/line of credit accounts to help protect us. We have been hit with a few bank services charges, but overall lucky to have acted quickly. these predators need to be stopped.
