I said OK and he left briefly and got two of his workers who were young men who came in a black 4-dr sedan with Tennessee license.
I went to observe the work when it began and after they had spread about 20 feet of driveway the man started talking about a price of $9 per/foot. I called him down on that pricing reminding him that $9 per/square was the price I had agreed to.
We debated the issue and he asked me to stop the work. I told him to stop. He had a batch of stone still left in his spreader which he spread on up my driveway. I told him I would pay him for what he did on the basis of $9 per/square price. He asked one of his workers to measure the length of my driveway. The worker said my driveway was 180 feet long.
I demanded that the man measure it again and he found it was only 65 feet long covering an area of about 520 square feet. (about 5 squares)
I offered to pay him for what he had done on the basis of $9 per/square price. He refused and promptly left the premises angrily.
The black dump truck had a spreader/scraper device mounted on the rear and a platform carrying a small compactor.
The truck had Vermont license plates.
