[email protected] Reports & Reviews (1)

Around 11:30 a.m., April 8,2016, my college student grandson received a disturbing phone call advising him that he had outstanding warrants involving unpaid college tuition, IRS debts and other government fraud charges, which were untrue. He was told they were sending the police to arrest him. The caller had a foreign accent, and said he was calling from the office of the International Center on campus. My grandson asked to speak to someone who could speak better English. He was switched to another person who also had a foreign accent. I called the number back, and reached the voice mail of the local FBI. I then call the state police, and the dispatcher told me it was a phone prank, that they would never notify someone they were being arrested. They would just show up. The dispatcher told me that number on the CALLER ID was the local FBI, that apps can be downloaded to allow a person to make phone calls using someone else's number. I was told these calls have been going around, and often times coming from other countries.
