Patent Trademark Office Reports & Reviews (2)

- Bloomfield, NJ, USA

I recently got a call yesterday as a matter of fact. It was someone claiming to be from the trademark office or Department. They called me and told me that my application had been filed correctly and that they were just confirming my voice or something. They said they were doing a voice confirmation for security reasons. Then I was told that at that time my application was successfully filed however I was still to pay another $250 declaration fee which I thought was paid after 5 years but the individual told me I believe their name was Lisa that I had to pay it as the application would be done filing if not it would not be done filed. I then proceeded to give my card 16 digit number and security code as well as expiration date and name on the card so that they would be able to process the fees. I questioned the fees and I was told that this was on the website of USPTO so they directed me to the trademark tools Tab and where it has fees. I was then told to verify the last four digits of my social security number. I was then also told that I had to be read a statement legally. I am just concerned that I gave my personal information regarding my direct identity to an individual who is not part of the Trademark Office. I am also worried that I am paying a bogus fee of $250 for something I shouldn't have to pay until 5 years. Please let me know if this was a legitimate call or if I just got scammed and should change my credit card or do something about my identity? Know what to do from here if my identity was stolen but I hope that it wasn't. Could you please elaborate on the fees if they are legitimate and or if this is a legitimate step in the process of filing a trademark for my company ** ***** ******. I am only concerned because I just finished looking up on google "will USPTO call me on the phone for declaration fee" and the very first thing stated isThe USPTO will never ask for your personal or payment information over the phone. If you suspect that you have received a spoofed call: Contact the Trademark Assistance Center (TAC) to verify the call was from a USPTO employee and for assistance on what to do next. After I just gave all this information to make a payment that I thought was legitimately stated as a fee on your website. The number that called me was from Arlington, VA +1 (571)272-1000 I believe I spoke with a Lisa.

The scammer contacted via mail requesting $1350.00 to process the renewal of a trademark which they stated is expiring. The document they send attempts to look like it is from the Government of Canada.
