I was sent a text message inviting me to interview for a remote job that offered $29 an hour and I scheduled an interview. On the day/time of the interview, I still hadn’t been sent a link, so I asked for one. They sent one after half an hour for a Teams interview. I expected it would take place over video but it was a text interview. In the text interview I saw that the interviewer had a Gmail address, as opposed to a work email address. The interviewer also asked my age as well as my name, which was a red flag to me. I told the interviewer I was concerned it was a scam and that if I was asked to conduct a monetary transaction I would end the chat. The interviewer told me the company would never ask for money, but they would send a check for needed software. I was afraid it was a check fraud scheme, so I left the chat and blocked them.
