In response to an ad on Facebook Marketplace, I got a quote email from Vat Container Transport Inc, Port St Lucie, FL for a 20ft shipping container. While the price was a little less than some other quotes I received, it wasn't significantly less and didn't send up any red flags of being "to good to be true". I was referred to their website so that I could "check out" that they were a "legitimate business". Their website was very slick and professional and appeared to be legitimate. I was instructed to pay by Venmo or wire transfer and send them a copy that the wire transfer had completed and then they would deliver the container. They provided an account name and number for where to transfer the money. After I notified them that the wire transfer had completed, they emailed me a shipping confirmation and said the container would be delivered by Swings Cargo and provided a date of delivery and tracking number. A couple days later I received an email from Swings Cargo that the container delivery was on hold due to additional $1537 for "port payment" charges that would be required before they would deliver. At that point I tried contacting Vat Container Transport to get my money back but no one answers the phone or responds to multiple emails.
