I was selling a heavy item on Craigslist and was contacted by a prospective buyer. All communication with the buyer was via email and text message. The buyer sent a cashier's check with an amount in excess of the asking price for the item, stating that the overage was for paying the moving company. Once the check was received (not deposited), I informed the buyer and requested a phone conversation to coordinate the transfer. The buyer indicated that she was deaf and unable to take calls. After some prompting, they gave me the name and website of the moving company. I called the number listed on the website. It rang through to a 'text mail subscriber' voicemail. I requested the 'buyer' to have the movers call me. They did so within a few minutes of my texted request. At this point, I was very much aware of the fraudulent nature of this transaction. The caller from the movers could not answer any questions related to the location of the business and promptly hung up on me. Further attempts to contact failed. It is my estimation that the 'business' only exists in the dreams and fantasies of manipulative scam artists. Thankfully, the true nature of this deal became apparent very early on and no damage was done. I would like this complaint to serve as a warning for anyone who encounters this fake website under similar circumstances.
