A friend in Ghana received an email inviting them to participate in a conference in the US hosted by the Organization of Human Rights and Economic Development (http://www.edhro.org/). He asked me to check on whether the conference was real. The email says that the conference will pay for flight and registration, but that the participant must pay and show proof of payment for accommodations at the conference hotel (the Mabel Royal Hotel). "All filled registration forms and hotel booking receipt should be submitted to the conference secretariat office". The email seems to direct potential conference attendees to a fake hotel/website (http://mabelroyal-hotel.webs.com/) to con money (and/or identifying information) out of them. The hotel "about us" contains suspiciously impossible information such as their location being inside a non-existent airport in Dallas. The hotel also does not have a presence on hotels.com, expedia.com, or priceline.com.
