Orange County Sheriff's Department Reports & Reviews (1)

I received a phone call with a local area code, the person said he was Sgt.Lowe with the Orange County Sheriff's Dept. he told me my birthday and address and asked if he had the right person, he said my street name incorrectly which seemed odd to me. However, he knew my name, birthday, and address which really concerned me. Then he said that I had failed to appear for jury duty and there were two warrants out for my arrest. He described the the warrants one as failure to appear and the other as contempt of court. He told me to write down two codes that I would need to rectify this so I would not be arrested, they were a combination of letters and numbers. Then something about bail bonds and that to make this go away it was going to cost $1800, $900 for each warrant. I would need to keep him on the phone and go to a local Rite Aid to purchase Treasury Bonds that would be vouchers to show at the Sheriff's Office. I told him I don't have that much money and he asked how much do you have? I said $1,000, he said that will do and we can sort out the rest once you get to the Sheriff's office. I told him I'm a single mom with a son with disabilities and that I had no one to watch him, he said it's fine take him with you we have kids here all the time, it's not like a jail, it's an office. I asked him his name again and he told me Sgt. Lowe, I asked him where the Sheriff's Office was and he gave me a Santa Ana address which is where jury duty is held as I was summoned last year. Scared I got in my car and started to drive, he asked me how far I was from Rite Aid and I said I didn't know, I thought that was strange. As I drove I thought this was all very strange so turns out my local county sheriff's office is across the street from Rite Aid, so I drove there instead to confirm the information he was telling me before I did anything. While I still had him on the phone I explained what he was saying and put him on mute, the sheriff told me to hang up it's a scam. They will never call you to tell you there's a warrant. It seemed so very real at first, like I said they knew personal information about me, had a local phone number and knew the Sheriff's headquarters address. Please be careful!
