Just an hour ago I had an Ontario Consumers agent knocked on my door and when I opened my door he told me he needed to check my water heater and furnace as part of the safety maintenance service I was entitled to as part of what I paid on my hydro bill. Not knowing this was a lie I let him into my basement to check on my water heater and furnace.

He proceeded to open my water heater tank valve and a bunch of water came flooding out causing a big flood in my basement where I had to get a bunch of cloth and mop to wipe up the excess water. He tried to close the water heater valve but the water just kept on leaking. He caller his supervisor to try to find out how to close the valve properly so the water would stop leaking. After he hung up the phone he tried to twist the valve as hard as he can but the water was still leaking. He then started to pass blame for the water leaking to the age of my water heater. It was then that I started to get suspicious and angry of what he was doing and tell him to call his boss again and arrange a technician to come fix the water leakage asap this evening. He called his boss, Jay ***, and I was able to talk to him and tell him that I am very unhappy that his agent, Christopher *** caused water leakage in my well functioning water heater. His boss also blamed my old water heater again which got me even more angry. I told him my water heater being old was not the problem, the source of the problem was your agent was not an HVAC technician and should have never meddled with my water heater because he did not have the proper HVAC training and knowledge. Before he laid his hand on my water heater it never had any problems, nor had there ever been any water leakage. His boss said he will send someone to my house to fix it tonight or tomorrow morning. I told him tomorrow morning is not an option as I have to go to work in the morning, so he said he will try his best to get someone to come fix it tonight. By then I was ready to tell the Ontario Consumer agent to leave my house, to which he still think he did nothing wrong and that the fault was due to my old water heater. I asked him: "if you're in my position would you not be upset?" The agent kinda mumbled and was hesitant to give his answer, that was when I told him goodbye and closed my door.

I then called Enercare and Enbridge and found out they have never authorized Ontario Consumers to do this door to door check up on residential home heating equipment, and that I should never let anyone into my house unless I made the appointment to begin with. This made me very angry at myself and at Ontario Consumers, I'm angry at myself for not using my common sense and I'm really angry at OC for using this kind of shameful scam tactic to get into unsuspecting people's homes and mess around with their heating equipment and cause damages and inconveniences for the home owners.

My boyfriend is a licenced HVAC technician and after work he came over to my house and examined my water heater tank and told me the agent had damaged my water heater tank drain valve and I will need to wait for the Enercare technician to fix and replace with a new drain valve.
