I am constantly receiving calls from a company called Online Technical Support claiming something is going on with my server and internet service. I have asked to be removed from their list. However, they claim I have a contract. They keeping asking for my IP address. Then, I asked them to cancel the contract Then, I was told they will need my customer id and tech number, but they will need my IP address to gather the information to cancel the contract. As stated to them over and over again, I will not be giving them assess to IP address. I reported the number to the Federal Trade Commission as well.

A person named Bob called my land line to tell me to turn on my computer. He said that my computer had harmful files in it and he would guide me to the files that need to be deleted. He said he could go to where they are located and he would tell me how to delete them. All I had to do was turn my computer on and he would tell me what to do next.

I told him I thought he was a scam and I was going to call the BBB. Then I hung up the phone.

I received a pop-up on my computer saying, "Do not restart your system" and something along the lines that something that was downloaded caused the computer to be infected with a virus. I was instructed to call 1-888-727-6612 and give the following code: B2957E. Behind that was a screen with all kinds of computer looking jargon that made it look like something was really wrong with the computer. I called and was connected with a man with a heavy accent. He wanted me to give him control of the computer. I was lucky as our system did not allow them access so they were unable to get information from me. When they called back as we became disconnected they called back at a different number and called themselves Online Technical Support.

I was told by my computer tech that it was a scam to get personal information after they were allowed onto your computer. I did restart the computer and nothing happened. It is working fine so the scam failed but others may not be so lucky.
