The scammer got into my email account, pretended to be me and contacted my business partner asking her to cut a cheque for a fake invoice and mail it to them asap. When she questioned the amount of the invoice they assured her that it was for professional services rendered. Continuing to pretend they were me, and using my email address complete with logo, signature, etc, my partner had no reason to believe it wasn’t me. She proceeded to write the cheque and mail it to them. We’ve since canceled the cheque but they will be receiving it in the mail in the near future.
