I’m worried because I thought it was someone I knew and they said can you here me and I said yes

- Tybee Island, GA, USA

I've had at least two calls from Omni Research claiming that I need additional medicare benefits and the caller persists after I tell her that I am not interested. She implies (and I am afraid that vulnerable believe) that she is some government-authorized person that is going to help me with something I need and that she represents the federal agency. when I assured her that I knew that Omni did not have any federal authority she persisted in telling me that she did. I've blocked the numbers that have been calling but I continue to get more calls from slightly different numbers.

- Greenwood, LA, USA

Person called saying he was doing a survey for medicare, and that I was to receive something under the plan, but did not identify what. Repeatedly asked for my card number which is my ss number. I refused to give it to him, or any other information saying he should have that on file, and for him to verify it from his records. He did not do so. At the time I was uneasy about the call, so refused to give any critical information. He ended the call. I have kept a recording of the call. I believe this person was trying to get my social security number.

- Los Angeles, CA, USA

I got a call from "Omni Research" (Not to be confused with Omni research company from Denver CO) The number was local from Los Angeles. I was promised a gift card of $*** to my choice of Target, Walmart, and one other store if I participated in a quick, minute or less phone survey.

(real research companies will pay $** to someone for doing a 20 minute survey over the phone or internet. so that was a clue)

I got switched from the robot calling me to the survey. After the survey I got transferred to a real live lady who told me her name about three times (another give away, she was nervous,) Who told me something like thank you for agreeing to review some magazines. I said I had not agreed to review magazines, I had completed a phone survey that had nothing to do with magazines (there were a lot of questions regarding health, student loan, credit card debt, etc.

I'm guessing if the answer to any of the questions had been yes, I would have been connected to a scammer who would have offered to "help' me with my problem identified by the survey, in exchange for credit card of bank account information. I hit "no" for everything.

The lady went on about the magazines, "no, you haven't received any magazines yet, but what hobbies are you into?" I said slowly and distinctly, "I'm Not paying for any magazines."

She thanked me, wished me a good day and we both hung up.

- Snoqualmie, WA, USA

They ask to take surveys with questions like do you or someone in your family have diabetes? Or have you had X procedure done because you could qualify to receive payment or are you having back pains, etc. Then if you complete the surveys then you get a gift card. You are signed up for free services and give numbers to call if you decide not to continue them. I called the numbers after the fact and they were bogus. At the end they ask for you to pay for shipping of your gift cards. $4.95. Nothing was taken from me because I changed and blocked my credit card information. I called my bank immediately.
