There is a SCAM going around where somebody calls you claiming to be the OFFICER in charge of your REGISTRATION. The caller knows the officer's name that deals with registration. The caller knows your name, your work number, your phone number, work number, your home address. The call looks Ike it's coming from a LOCAL PHONE NUMBER. The caller calls himself by the officers name, and tells you that your registration address was incorrectly put into the system, and 2 numbers were interchanged. They claim a BENCH WARRANT has been put out for your ARREST. They say you owe $485, but since you say you're coming to clear up your address they hang up with you and say when you call back
(574)200-0135 that the bench warrant has been cancelled but the fees remains. They claim that if you give them the Green Dot card you will receive a cashier's check that they write to you that you can cash in a few days as a refund! They will not let you pay by any other means. THIS IS NOT NORMAL!!
The caller KEEPS YOU ON THE PHONE and says you must stay on the phone with them and they lead you to the nearest Family Dollar or Dollar Tree so you can buy your GREENDOT CARD. They give you instructions and make you scratch off the pin and give them the number all the while they tell you that they will meet you at the POLICE STATION.
ONCE you get there they hang up because they have all they need (which was your Green Dot number) and they spend the money VERY VERY FAST. This just happened to a friend of mine today in Northern Indiana.
