On November 28, 2021 I learned OfferUp has been charging me $19.99/month for over a year. I thought I was charged approx $6.99 for a 3-day period to boost my post. So, I put in a request to Apple Pay to cancel and also to get all of that money reimbursed. Immediately after I put in that request I also tried to reach out directly to OfferUp. I couldn’t easily find a way to contact OfferUp. Then, in a Google search this number came up as the way to connect with OfferUp Customer Service: 877-342-7222 . I called. A man said he needed all of the credit card info. I told him he should have it since you’ve been charging me $19.99/month for a year and I didn’t know until today. He told he something with the system changed so you didn’t have that info on file. He got all of my contact info and all of my card info. He then proceeded to connect me with an automated system that he said would verify my identity. He said it didn’t work. He requested a different credit card so they could confirm my identify I order to make the cancellation and take care of the reimbursement. It didn’t work again. I told him I was concerned. He said we should try a third card. I gave him that info too. He said it didn’t work again. I told him that’s very concerning and I was starting to think this wasn’t above board. He said not to worry, that people at another OfferUp number could help. He said he would give me a cancellation code but never did. He told me to call 1-800-373-3411? — This was an addiction services number. My heart stopped and I realized this was a huge fraud scam. I called the first number back. There was an automated message that said it was a temporary number not currently working. I called back again. No answer. I called back yet another time and the man who answered said he was with Medicare and Medicaid. I told him OfferUp answered before. He said that was a temporary number temporarily unavailable now.
