A person claiming to be David Willson emailed me saying that he found me on local Google business and would like to hire me to design a logo and a catalogue for his furniture company. He provided me with details of the project and I provided him with a quote. He accepted the quote and I asked him to send me a check for the initial deposit. He told me he would prefer to pay with a credit card and I then invoiced him via PayPal which would allow him to pay by credit card. He emailed me that his bank will not work with PayPal and asked me to invoice him via Square. This began to sound suspicious to me, but I went ahead and invoiced him via Square. He then emailed me that because of health problems he was unable to complete the payment to the consultant who had the high resolution images that I would need, and asked me to forward money to the consultant (an amount larger than the deposit) once I received my deposit from him. To quote from his email: "due to my present condition I was diagnosed with lung cancer and will undergo a surgery soon so I’m limited and I won’t be able to do that. Kindly send me an invoice of $5,750 in which $1,100 will be your upfront payment for the job, and $4,500 you will help me forward to the project consultant so he can release the raw files for the brochure, you can keep the $150 as tip. Once I make the payment and you have funds in your possession then you can help me forward to him, I will balance upon job completion." At this point I told him that I could not do this and that unless he was able to send me a check as an initial deposit that I could not work with him. So I did not lose any money, only time, but the man was obviously trying to get money out of me. He never gave me his address or phone number.
