I was contacted by phone, the gentleman on the phone posed as a policeman, asking for donations to support fallen policemen in New York State. He gave some statistics about how many policemen have been killed in the line of duty over the past year and was asking for support for families. He spoke quickly, I asked a couple questions, and once I agreed to give a certain dollar amount he transferred me to a woman who took my credit card information. I asked for verification of the company they worked for, and they gave me a transaction number, phone number and website. Once I hung up I looked up their website online, which was not active, then looked up their phone number, which came up a potential scam. I then contacted my credit card company immediately and requested they shut down my credit card number and re-issue me new a new card/number. I also filed a dispute with them and am waiting for the forms.
