I had 24 hours to cancel a 2-year signup for Best Buy GeekSquad for $399.11.

Initial emails:

[email protected]

[email protected]

In the overly long process, they had me install several remote viewers:

- RustDesk (I'm going to remove that!)

- Ultraviewer (from a normal website)

- AnyDesk (from a normal website)

They were refunding me $400 to my bank account, but the system "accidentally" refunded $4000. Supposedly I need to quickly return the extra $3600, even though it hasn't shown up in my bank account. They wanted me to make the payment at Lowe's, Walmart, Sam's Club, or one of several other large stores (using a code), but not at Best Buy, before the end of the bank business day. The sites (including a fake Bank of America) all looked surprisingly real. A final way to see it couldn't be real was an email from the Better Business Bureau, but coming from this email address: [email protected]

Another fake purchase email showed up while I've been typing this in (this time it is for $152.35):
