Charleston Performing Arts Center/Coliseum recruits show workers from all over the southeast region of the United States, and even nationally, begging for help because they're understaffed, then after union workers and others drive hundreds of miles across multiple states to help, and work all through the night on grueling and dangerous tasks, the PAC refuses to pay the workers. Workers have been going a year or more without their duly earned money, as multiple in the organization know about the problem but have effectuated nothing. Neither were they given any compensation for gas, mileage, or lodging when gas prices were at record highs and driving without sleep puts everyone on the road at risk of death. Thus, working for the Charleston PAC/Coliseum actually costs workers more than they're paid, and strong-arming non-union workers to divert a percentage of their paychecks into the Charleston Union 333 account is against union rules. For-profit entertainment production and management companies who put on the shows are thus financially benefiting from free labor, and tax fraud is occurring as the PAC reports withholdings while doing the withholding entirely.
