I worked for Nik’s Store, located at 360 Ross St, Beaverton, MI 48612 for almost 2 months and in that time have been through nothing but unfair hardship - arguably the worst case of Involuntary Servitude that I have personally witnessed. Since I was a new-hire, every piece of stolen merchandise or gas pump drive offs came out of my pocket, most of the time without my knowledge. It wasn’t until I had a drive-off for $99 in fuel that I came to realize I was being stolen from. Beyond Involuntary Servitude, the owners Layne & Nikki Mercer refuse to believe in COVID-19 or the government mandates that go with it such as wearing a mask, social distancing, and most importantly, quarantine. My family unfortunately tested positive for COVID, thus ordering the entire household be under quarantine for the next two weeks. It only took 4 days until I was being accused of “skipping town” and was told to come back to work also because they “couldn’t afford my vacation”. If Layne Mercer runs a legitimate business, both stolen property of any kind, and my quarantine time have both been compensated by insurance which begs the question: why did I have to pay for it? It is only evident that Layne is running a scam on his employees for extra personal profit. Nik’s Store’s extremely high turn-over rate leads me to believe that I’m not the first employee who has been scammed, and I won’t be the last unless something is done about this business.
