On August 25, 2020, I got a message from someone on Facebook messenger who I thought was my church minister. She asked, "Hello how are you doing today?", then I replied, "I am doing well, how are you?", then she said that she is doing great. She messaged me about a grant program and asked if I've heard about the Newlife Empowerment Foundation and I said No, I haven't heard about it. Then, I asked her what the program was about, then she said that it's a government grant program and she claimed she got a box full of cash sent to her home and she purchased American Express Gift Cards to pay the delivery fees. I was very surprised at first and thought to myself, "We'll this can't be, this must be real", but then I felt pressured by her to do something that I didn't want to do such as contacting the agent's phone number because usually if I'm being offered a business or grant opportunity, I would have to stop and do my research first, but then she told me that the program was legit, she got her funds, and she says that I could get my funds, too. I felt very skeptical about this and so she rushed me into giving out my information such as my name, birthday, home address, etc. She referred me over to the program agent's number and so she wanted me to contact the agent, his name was Frederick Goldsmith, Jr. So after I contacted the number she gave me, I said Hello, I'm interested in the Newlife Empowerment Foundation program that my church minister referred me to, and the agent, Frederick Goldsmith, was sending me numerous text messages such as "Hello, Hello, Hello, Are you there?" and that's when it made me feel uncomfortable, and I just walked away for a while, I also blocked the phone number and as of now, If would have been told about not responding to government grant scam numbers and deleting friends pages that have been compromised and hacked, I would have not been in this predicament. So later, I went back to messenger and told my church minister who I thought it was her until months later, I found out that it was not her and later realized I was communicating with a scammer, a complete stranger. My church minister's Facebook page got hacked. Then in late October, she messaged me again asking how was I was doing and I said I'm doing good, then she asked me to contact the agent again but I felt like I was being pressured and forced to do something I felt very uncomfortable doing, and something in my gut was ticking and I thought to myself, "We'll maybe it might be her messaging me because she told me that I wouldn't ignore an opportunity from my church minister" and I wasn't thinking and I didn't have any knowledge and I was not aware of what's going on. I'm disabled and have Autism and I didn't realize that I was involved in an online scam. Before I found out, I just went ahead and decided to just reach out to the government agent that my minister, who I thought referred me to, was Frederick Goldsmith. I contacted the number that was registered to him, then asked if I could apply for the Newlife Government Grant, and then I received text messages such as "Congratulations, you qualify $50,000 in grant money" he asked me for my personal information such as my birthday, home address, and income, etc. He had other phone numbers as well that I added to the report. I've been swindled out of $4,741.38 and am also at a negative balance of $3,478.56 on my Golden 1 Student Checking Account and a negative balance of $10.99 on my savings account as well. I paid the scammer with American Express Gift Cards, an online STEAM gift card, Cash App Bitcoin, and my debit card. He also asked me to open accounts with Bank of America and Chase Bank so he can make deposits into my accounts to cover delivery fees in hopes of getting my so-called grant money that I'm being promised. The last time I spoke to the scammer, he lied and claimed he never deposited anything into my accounts. except my Golden 1 Student Account I had since my 19th birthday because I was already starting college. When the scammer made the bad deposits into my Student Account, he wanted me to withdraw it by adding the funds to Cash App bitcoin to send to him to cover the fees (such as delivery fees), and I thought in my mind before I found out that I was doing something legitimate but then months later, I now realize that I was involved in a scam. I stopped contacting him this morning on June 15, 2021 at 6:33am. The last deposit he made into my Golden 1 Checking Account was on November 25, 2020. Then the Credit Union later freezed my account and I was trying to call to figure out what happened but then I got interrupted. I was very afraid, nervous, and the scammer wanted me to trust him that he was doing everything legitimate and then I went along with his words. He has deceived me and lied to me months during the New Year of 2021 after I found out, and also after my family found out when they took away my cell phone and looked through all the messages that I had with the scammer. The scammer responded back to my mom saying that this program that I was in was legitimate and my mom said that it was not at all. Then he said to me that everything will be okay and he still wanted me to stay in contact with him and I continued sending the scammer money through Cash App and Gift cards. However, I did not open any other bank accounts besides Bank of America and Chase. The good thing was they automatically froze the accounts and I knew something wasn't right until I found out later on. I did use my debit card to pay the scammer and cash app as well with all the money I had from doing house chores. As of June 15, 2021, I have blocked the scammer's phone numbers and also blocked him through WhatsApp because that is where we had our conversation at and it made me decide to file a report to get my case investigated. He kept on asking me for more money and that is when I stopped all contact with him, it was only through regular text messages and WhatsApp. He also has been doing this to other victims and he claims he's a government IRS agent and I already realize that the U.S. Government and the IRS NEVER EVER contacts people through phone, text message, email, and social media, including the Social Security Administration. They'll NEVER contact you during the nighttime, daytime, or anytime, at all. I also have talked to the scammer over the phone, he has some kind of African accent and he claims that he's a God fearing man and all of this false information that could be potentially not true. I knew something wasn't right until I found out and I didn't know what was going on. I haven't yet talked to Golden 1 CU as well as Bank of America and Chase to resolve this issue and my parents are going to hire a power of attorney to fix my financial history and my credit. I also have to come up with a payment plan to pay Golden 1 CU back all the money that has been lost in a scam and I am working on trying to fix my name and to be removed from ChexSystems and Early Warning Systems, also. The Scammer, Frederick Goldsmith is located in Phoenix, AZ.
