I was just involved in a Petscam that originated in Lodi CA with ties to Colorado. On Wednesday, 28 April, an advertisement for newfoundland puppies was discovered in our local newspaper (Gazette). I visited the website (newfoundlandtails.com) and told them I was interested in a Newfoundland puppy. On Saturday, 1 May, I was contacted by "Newfoundlandtails" in response to my request to buy a Newfoundland puppy from their website. I was told told me the price of 1K and I paid via Zelle. The seller said he took the puppy to the shipper (evergreen- shippers.net) on Sunday, 2 May. The shipper then contacted me and stated I needed to pay $1500 for a climate controlled crate that would be refundable after delivery. I paid that fee via Zelle. On Monday, 3 May, the shipper contacted me and told me I had to pay an insurance fee of $2200, also refundable. I paid $1500 of that via Zelle but was unable to pay the remaining $700 due to reaching my limit for the day/week. The shipper contacted me on 4 May, and said that I had to pay the remaining insurance fee ($700) or face losing my refund and end up being charged $25,000 boarding fees. I requested a picture of the puppy numerous times but the shipper would not comply. I asked for the location of their office and they gave me the address of a storage unit in Lodi CA 95240. I did a check on petscams.com and the seller's website (newfoundlandtails.com) was identified as a scam site. So, I texted the seller and asked for a referral of someone who had provided the climate control fees and insurance fees and received a refund. She gave me a name of someone here in Colorado and I called him. He stated he did indeed receive a refund, but then I ran his phone number and it led to a website selling bull mastiff puppies. The referral’s website was identical to the seller’s website in structure and content. His number is the point of contact on the site. Both sites start out "It all started in the year 2013, when we first got our first…". In fact, both sites use the same customer testimonials.The El Paso Sheriff’s Deputies investigated the info and told me this is definitely a scam and opened the case afterward.
