New Jersey Consumer Affairs Reports & Reviews (1)

- Redding, CA, USA

Received a call at 6:00 pm 4/6/21 stating I had won a sweepstakes prize. The callers name was David Moore and he said he worked for the Consumer Affairs office (later in the conversation he said he worked for the Consumer Affairs department), I was told I won a lot of money and he was responsible for distributing the money. When asked what sweepstakes I won he said that it could be mega million or Publishers Clearing House, he didn’t really know, he just handled distributing the money. Then he verified the money was in an account at BOA by having me stay on the line while he dialed another number which then played a prerecorded message that said your bank account balance is $10,700,000. He then wanted to set up a time for the following day to call me so he could explain how to receive the prize, it could either be transferred to a bank account or delivered to my home as a cashiers check. I asked why he had to call back the next day and he said I would need a special code for a company ID so if someone calls I would be able to ask for their ID number. He ended up telling me the company ID number and then said Alex Jones would call me at 9 am the following day. He mentioned that I need to keep the winning confidential and when I said I was skeptical he said the conversation was being recorded by the FTC. The caller also spoke with poor English.
