The scam happened with my mother: she was on the computer when an alert froze her computer and told her she needed to call 888-851-6891 to obtain the software protection to unlock her computer. She spoke with a Patrick Wilson, with a middle eastern voice, and after she gave them her credit card number and charged 249.99, they began "installing the software" to her computer. They told her to leave the computer on, since it will take 2 hours to complete. She called me and since it sounded suspicious, I called on her behalf to cancel the download and get her money back. Patrick refused at first, saying i didn't have a good reason to cancel. And then he hung up the phone. When I called back, he said (without even a hello) "I'm working on it." He asked if someone told her to cancel, and I explained it didn't matter. He only compiled when I explained we alerted the credit card company. He canceled the download and gave a reference number. The company continues to call my mother's house.
