My husband called NetGear for tech support and after being on the phone for a couple hours they told him he needed he could pay different levels for security so his wifi would work on his outdoor Orbi /NetGear router/modem to run Solar and extended cameras $419.99 for lifetime since we didn’t have additional security it wouldn’t work. So he paid $419.99 and since then laptop didn’t work but all other devices did.
He called NetGear today to be told his warranty didn’t exist and that he was scammed as the email his wife received and charges were not listed on the account.

I was trying to set up my internet router a Netgear Nighthawk and I was told I had to purchase virus protection in order for my router to work. However, that is not the case. The company would not help me until I did. They sent me a PayPal link and waited until I paid the money before they would help.

Scammer's phone(408) 907-8000 Scammer's email[email protected] Type of a scamOnline Purchase
I contacted Netgear to have the password reset in order to use their wifi extender. I was told that I needed to do it on the website. When I entered their website, a chat box opened asking if they could help? I let them know that I was trying to reset the Netgear password on the extender. They told me they would have one of their experts call me, but it was important that I have a laptop in order to receive the assistance. I immediately received a phone call from someone named Jennie. She asked for my problem and then she asked if she could gain access to my laptop in order to reset my password. Once she had access, she immediately started showing me how unprotected I was and how many foreign IP addresses were connected to my account. She told me I could easily be hacked and that my identity could be stolen. She then tried to sell me their protection plan for $199 + tax. I wanted to first discuss with my children since they are more tech savy than I am. She assured me that they were legitimate. It was at this time that I learned that I wasn't speaking with someone from Netgear, but someone from One Click Geeks. She indicated that they are a third party working for Netgear to do their repair work for customers. She also convinced me to try it for one year to see how good they are. I agreed. The only problem as I was typing in my information to purchase the product was that I wanted to use my American Express card. She said they were having a problem with taking that card & I would need to use another one & that there is an additional charge when you use that card. I thought how strange and even said to her, that she had never said that during our discussions. I told her I didn't have any other card. So she agreed to check with her superiors. The superiors said if I used it, I would have to pay another $40. I said no & that I didn't want it. And, because I didn't properly disconnect her from having access into my laptop, I later that day saw a cursor moving. I shut down my laptop. I opened it and the icons from the access to my laptop was still there. Again strange. I did move them into my trash and dumped my trash in order to get rid of it. Bottom line, all I wanted to do was get help in changing the password. Instead I was switched by someone from Netgear to a third party company that tried to take advantage of me. People need to be aware of scams like this.

Victim Location93063 Type of a scamTech Support
Warning: Netgear will not honor a 1 year product warranty after the 90day "complimentary support period" without PAYING them first for a support contract.
Background:
I Purchased a CM1200 Cable Modem last year in June, starting in January the modem starts to frequently disconnect, huge packet loss, and failure to sync upstream, constant blinking upstream light.
I spent the past 3 weeks with Spectrum troubleshooting everything, rebooting the modem, restoring the modem to factory settings, replacing all cable from pole to house, and finally this week swapping out the modem itself with one of the Spectrum provided Motorola modems after determining the Netgear unit is defective.
The Spectrum replacement is now working well.
Having purchased this modem less than 1 year ago I attempted to utilize the warranty to RMA the product, establish a support case 44174779, call the number listed only to find out that they will NOT honor the hardware warranty after 90days without troubleshooting which requires a purchase of a min. 3month $44 support contract.
In simple terms Netgear is selling hardware with a 1 year warranty that cannot be used after 90 days without an additional purchase.
This is not disclosed, it is dishonest, and is grounds for a class action law suit under consumer laws, certainly in the USA.
Following the link on the box which shows a 1 year warranty: https://www.netgear.com/about/warranty/
No where is the stipulation you must purchase a support contract to utilize the harware warranty.
Let me tell you how this should work, you call/file a support claim for a product, they verify you're under warranty, they ask you to follow steps to verify a covered defect without charge since you're covered under WARRANTY, defect is confirmed, RMA is issued, and finally you ship the product back for a repair/replacement, SIMPLE.

Scammer's phone187779886435 Type of a scamPhishing
I was looking for a tech support for my new NETGEAR Range Extender. Official website didn’t provide me with a customer support number, so I searched for a customer support phone numbers via google. I found 1800 number and called. Person with Indian accent introduced himself as Netgear support and requested access to my laptop via LogMein. He sounded legit and I grunted support and administrator privileges. The person started talk **, tried to change my router password and access codes and tried selling me some kind of software while hacking my computer. I asked for a supervisor and he hung up. Clearly it was some phishing/ hacking scheme posing as a legit Netgear support. Phone number in the add was 18779886435.
