Once the job was complete they asked to deposit funds into my Australian bank account. Then the following day I received an email saying I had to pay the bank $700 USD for a Remote Employee Business LIcence Card (Remote Permit Pass) so the bank First Northern Credit Union would release my payment funds. I'm happy to forward the email to you which was sent on the fake letterhead of First Northern Credit Union.
I asked that they just pay via PayPal instead and the answer was a firm no. Stating the payment could not be returned once held by the credit union. I have since contacted them (the credit union) and there is no record of any payment being held in my name and they would have automatically returned it as unable to verify.
When you click on the link in the email asking for the $700 payment, it is to Skype with a bank employee who will walk. you through the process of paying the $700 to obtain the work permit.
No bank on earth operates like this. Not in any country. So with all of these red flags sent up I am informing you this company is fake. The website is fake with only one front page, and no pages for services when clicked upon they are all blank.
The street address is fake, it does not exist. A friend who lived in Vermont verified this for me.
The First Nothern Credit Union has verified there is no such payment and their fraud department has been notified.
My Australian bank has been notified and accounts locked down along with scam alerts.
PayPal has been notified of a problem account.
Lastly, I will be contacting UpWork. The job listed was removed from UpWork, I have screenshots and I will be making a report so more freelancers trying to make a living will not be targeted and ruined.
