I received an email on July 12, 2022 at 8:56AM (EST) stating that I made a PayPal order for "Coin Credit DOGE" for $954.59. It stated my dad's name saying that he had a Customer ID# of 5939257 and the order # was ZWBYJ-NTBP-MHQQG. The email closed with stating that "The order can be cancelled withing 24 hours, to cancel, just dial:" 888-546-3814. I called this number and a woman with an Indian accent told me that I needed to go to a website and download instructions to cancel the order. I did that, but the download didn't work. She told me that I had to disable my Antivirus protection software so that it would work. I immediately told her that this was a scam, I'm not doing this, and you won't do anything on your end, and she immediately hung up the phone after I told her this. When I was on the website trying to download, I remembering seeing a pop-up box stating that someone was trying to gain remote access to my computer. That's when I knew it was a scam, besides never buying cryptocurrency. I never do. It seems that the scam was designed to scare people into downloading to cancel the order to gain remote access into one's computer. When I told her I never bought the DOGE coin, she didn't react at all to dispute it. She also never identified herself as a PayPal customer; it was difficult to understand her with her thick accent. The email was designed to look like it was from PayPal, but there was no PayPal info in the footer. I deleted the email, but kept a printout. I called the real PayPal company to verify this was a scam, they said it was. They had nothing in their records about this, and they said the Customer ID# doesn't exist. The customer info they had was my dad's name, but it was my email address. PayPal said I did have an open account under my name, phone #, email address, but that I had never used it. I didn't remember ever creating a personal PayPal account, but I had them close their records/the account they had for me.
