I posted my car for sale on OfferUp. I got a text from an unknown number saying they were interested. They gave their name as Johnny and asked a couple questions about the car, then asked me to send the “NWV papers”. Having never heard of that, and not seeing anything relevant on Google, I asked for clarification, and they pointed me to nationwidevin.com. When I mentioned Carfax, they kept trying to point me to their website. Seeing other reports of this sort of scam, I knew that this was likely just a way for them to get a credit card number from me, and they stopped responding when I caught on that they weren’t really interested in buying my car.
