I received the following texts

“ Hello Applicant! This is Mrs. Alice Morgan from the National Science Foundation. We've reviewed your resume and believe you'd be a perfect fit for our remote positions. We have several openings available, including Administrative Clerk, Customer Service Representative, and Data Entry positions. Rest assured; all the necessary equipment will be provided. Kindly reply (YES) to this message, if you're still interested in the remote job position and for more information!”

“ The salary for these positions ranges between $38 to $45 per hour, depending on the job. Our company is committed to your personal development, and therefore, we offer two weeks of paid training at $22.00 per hour before full work. You can work full-time, or part-time, and remote work is available. We will provide all the necessary tools and software programs required for the job. Do you have any issues with working online from home?”

When I asked if there was a way to verify their identity, I received no response. I did not apply for this job, but was applying through FlexJobs as well as zip recruiter.

They asked for some personal information such as my name, my mothers name, my phone # and my carrier, my email name, my password for facebook. They asked for a copy of my drivers licence (front and back), They told me to go get american express cards 7 for 500.00 each and then asked me to send pictures of the front and back, which I didn't do. The name of the person calling said to be Loretta Lynch (540-385-5770). I don't believe that it was really my friend texting. They told me to tell no one.

My friend told me on Facebook Messenger to contact the National Science Foundation for a program to get money to help with daily bills that you do not have to pay back. She gave me their phone number 580-313-2574. We began texting back and forth. Agent Adams said he was with the Federal Government. He wanted personal information to process the application, and an upfront fee to cover costs that he said would be given back to me. I blocked him.

This scammer hacked a friend’s messenger account. They pretended to be that friend. They asked me if I knew about the grant program funded through the government administered by the National Science Foundation. Then I got a Message from someone who claimed to be “agent Smith” also telling me I qualified for the grant, and if I sent $1500, I would receive $90,000 and be reimbursed for the amount I sent. I called my friend and she told me she had never got a grant.

National Science Foundation - Imposter I received a Facebook message saying that I was chosen for a grant by the US government for help with the covid-19 economic impact. I was asked to confirm a few items for identification, and was told to call a number. I called and was then placed on hold, once I was off of hold, I was then connected to a man who claimed to be Agent Albert Smith... He asked what I was going to do with the money and told me that I wasn't able to tell anyone about it because it was "confidential" and that I needed to go to Walgreens to grab a prepaid card for $400 and send him a picture for a processing fee. He stated that I would get that money back in my grant. I realized it was a scam.
