I received a text message from this number from someone claiming to be Mrs. Kate McCrary. She offered a long list of WFH opportunities with an hourly pay of $37 per hour. She asked which I would be interest in. She then sent a Microsoft Teams link for me to connect with the hiring manager, Wallace McNally. Via the chat, Wallace sent me information about the company, it's culture, and a job description. The interview process was about 15-20 questions. After completion, I was told to stand-by for 10-15 minutes while Wallace submitted my "interview" to HR. He came back and offered me the job and asked for my name, home address, email, and phone number. He sent me a list of all the software and hardware I would need and stated the company would pay for all the required resources. Here comes the scam! I was told HR will mail out a job welcome packet, containing a W4 and a check to pay for the needed resources. I was instructed to deposit the check into my banking account, he was even nice enough to allow me to deduct $150 from the check to keep as a signing bonus. I was to then send the rest of the money to a vendor to purchase the software and hardware I needed to work. I smelled a scam from the beginning. I gave them a bogus home address to mail the check. I'm sure the check they sent was bad and I would've been on the hook for bank fees and any dollars to withdrew against it. It's a shame that there are individuals out there looking to scam honest people, just looking for work. BEWARE!
