Nancie Crespi Reports & Reviews (6)

On Sunday, July 1,2018, I rented a property located at ******* Belle Road, Bethany Beach, Delaware ******* (HomeAway Property #*******), owned by Nancie Crespi, for a stay from July 2-7,2018.
Unfortunately, the rental property did not present as listed and was beyond inadequate, especially for a person with handicapped needs and small children. The rental property not only was a health concern but a safety concern in many areas. The pictures and explanation of the property, within the correspondences we had, as well as the rental website, did not accurately explain the property and were untruthful and beyond misleading. The rental property had a slew of concerns and issues that were not aforementioned within the correspondences I had with the owner prior to our arrival or on your HomeAway website that lists the rental (https://www.vrbo.com/*******). Overall, the property was filthy (even though we had to pay a cleaning fee of $250), disorderly, and a property that is ill kept and shouldnt be rented to others. The concerns and issues are stated below, and photographs of each concern are attached to this letter.
1. Kitchen
A. Main entrance of property, on bottom level, had no working lock (neither door handle lock or dead bolt was in working condition)
B. Frame of main entrance was falling off, leaving a ½ inch gap on top of door, allowing bugs to enter living quarters at all hours of the day and night
C. Dehumidifier in dining area was completely covered and filled with black mold, and filter to dehumidifier had over ¼ inch of dust and mold clogging it
I. Unusable and clearly not healthy to use, although owner stated on paperwork left on table that it should be running always.
D. Dishwasher was filled with dishes from a previous renter, including a spatula covered with food, which was now fuzzy mold
E. Dish towels hanging on stove handle were covered with food and black mold
F. Enormous pile of Old Bay Seasoning was located on right side of sofa against wall, pile so large that it dusted the electrical outlet and side table
G. Sliding glass door was completely inaccessible, as the entire window pane was off the frame, leaving the glass to fall off track. Handle and frame were not attached to door at all
H. Darkening shades in living room were stained at bottom with dog urine
2. Bedroom
A. In bunk bedroom, a package of moldy pickled sausages was found under the bunkbed
B. Mens deodorant, various price tags, Hershey nugget chocolates, and a dirty diaper were all located under the dresser in the bunk bed room
C. Mens dirty socks located under the full bed in bunk bed room
3. Bathroom #1
A. Shower curtain and surrounding shower enclosure area covered in black mold
B. Bottom right corner of shower stall rotted out and moldy
C. Faucet not attached to sink
4. Laundry Area (downstairs)
A. Washing machine filled with dirt, pine needles, pine cones, and spare change
B. Rodent droppings around floor of washer and dryer
C. Hole in wall, labeled by someone, June 11th found
5. Upstairs Living Area
A. No mention that there is no access to upstairs of house inside. No mention from owner that you can only access the upstairs by going outside to additional set of stairs
B. Upstairs washing machine filled with an entire load of laundry from a previous renter
C. Vacuum unusable (no filter) and left outside on back deck.
D. Back deck unsafe, all joists holding deck up are completely rusted and rotted out
E. Various holes in the walls covered by wall paintings and wall decorations
6. Deck Along Canal
A. Pile of cigarette butts, beer bottles, and dirty napkins on top of round patio tables
B. McDonalds fast food bag stuffed behind grill (noticed while grill was lit and running, fire hazard) filled with cheeseburgers and french fries
C. Gate to access deck is falling off hinges making it unsafe to keep our children from accessing the deck
7. Additional Concerns
A. Both vacuums (upstairs and downstairs) unusable
B. Multiple ceiling tiles were rotted out, stained, and then spray painted white to make them look clean. Some had holes that were stuffed with tissues
C. Paint on walls in multiple rooms was bubbled and peeling off walls
D. No beach permit passes were left for our use, as promised by the owner of the property
E. Constant dripping of water leaking from gutter at corner of house, as you enter house, pouring onto each person as they entered the rental property.
I am highly disappointed and disgusted at the living arrangements that my family had to stay in over the week. Not only was this rental property a health hazard, but a safety concern for my wife, children, and grandchildren. Clearly, I was billed for a property that did not come close to meeting my expectations and was not clearly or truthfully explained by the owner in multiple correspondences. This property was misrepresented and my wife, of whom I explained had handicapped needs, was not at all comfortable or able to shower or toilet comfortably.

We stayed in July 2021. The house was a disaster. We paid over $6000 for the week. The house was filthy, smell of Mold and mildew in the downstair rooms, flies everywhere, fly traps hanging in corner of every room, holes in ceiling tiles, ceiling tiles falling down, outside light fixtures hanging off wall. Unsecured outdoor staircase from deck to second floor. Rusted outdoor tables and chairs leaving metal shards all over the deck. Gates for deck do not secure making it hazardous for children around water. Peeling paint in the interior, filthy walls, floors etc. Owners response to concern quote what do you expect from an affordable water front rental in Bethany Beach
Slumlord owners, beware.

We just returned from our vacation in Bethany. Although we enjoyed our family vacation the house we rented for almost 6,500 was disgusting. The amenities that were listed were not correct. There was no side patio, it was the driveway. The pool was not part of the house and because of Covid was not open. The yard was an overgrown weeded mess, couldn't even sit outside because of all the bugs, same with the front porch. The house was not opened as Nancie had said and we had to call her to come and unlock it. She unlocked it and hightailed it outta of there. Upon opening up the door we were assaulted with a strong odor of pot. The house was dirty and cluttered. The bathrooms were not cleaned, perhaps the toilet since there was paper across...there was no disinfecting, that was for sure. The kids found dirty clothes, garbage, and empty vape cartridges under the beds. The dishes were not in any type of order it was a mis-mashed congloberation of plates, utensils, pans etc. We were told we would need to wash the sheets and put them away before our check-out at 10am. We brought our own, and I am so glad we did. The sheets were gross...and whose to say if the previous renters washed them considering the state of the house. The light was out in the laundry room and the fridge in the laundry room. There was half used laundry supplies...gross, there was also used toiletry items under the sinks...double gross. My husband found a jar of Prego in a cupboard with an expiration date of 2016. We all were walking barefoot in the house until we saw the bottoms of our feet. They were completely black from the carpet and floors. Cobwebs and dust in the corners and on some of the furniture. We tried to cancel because Covid and she would not give us a refund, our travel insurance would not cover our claim because they said it was a "known event" ...500.00 wasted there. It is a shame the house was in such a state but it seems like it has been that way for quite some time. I am surprised the home owners association for the Salt Pond community does not enforce this to be rectified. I hope no one else gets suckered into this house.

This house was disgusting during our rental in July 2021. House has not been deep cleaned in years. Walls need painting and the clutter of nasty bedding, dishes and cookware needs to go. Beds right out SUCKED. And dont get me started with the electrical issues.

I rented a property advertised on VRBO in Bethany Beach, DE. However, the contracting phase did not go through VRBO but through the individual owner. The house advertised on line was filthy. There were cobwebs in every room, there were Cheerios, dirty socks and empty water bottles under the kid's beds. The refrigerator had to be cleaned before we could use it. The dishes/silverware were dirty so we ate off paper plates and ran the utensils and glasses through the refrigerator twice before using. We were in Bethany for a wedding weekend and rented the house for three nights. We only stayed two due to the filth. We left the morning after the wedding. When we called the owner about the condition of the house and asked for the cleaning company to return, we were told were the cleaning supplies and vacuum were located. I paid over $2200. for the rental. When I called the owner upon our return, she hung up on me and has not responded to any of my emails or calls.

We had the same issues. Not sure how long ago it was for you but it seems like this is what the condition of the house has always been.
