Was on my face book page and chick on a recipe a page popped up said my lab top had a virus and a massage said to call the toll

(888) phone number and they would help clean my lab top. Than offered to down load a fire wall software program to protect my lab top for future viruses. Offered a 5 year protection plan of $399.80. Took my credit card number, phone, and email address.

I got a pop up telling me my computer had a virus, and that I needed to call 1-800-333-1634 to get fixed. I could not move out of the site. It said that I could not turn off the computer .I called them and I was told that my antivirus had run out and needed to be updated. I did give my credit card and they told me I would be charged 199.00 for a 3 year warranty for antivirus protestion. They worked on my computer for an hour to tell me it was fixed. They called the next day to verify my computer was working ok. My computer has been workign ok . but i do not know if it was a scam. Although, I gave them my creditr card and it went through, I did called credit card company to cancel my card and reissue me a replacement card. Everything on my computer seems okay , but I want to make sure it is not a scam and if it is ehat I should do to protect myself.
