I thought I had done my due diligence researching Munchkin Cat Cattery, but I was wrong. Looking for a munchkin kitten to add to our family and this one caught my eye. Professional website, good selection of munchkins and Scottish folds, and excellent prices on kittens. Contacted them via email on 28 Apr 2025. They responded back quickly and professionally. Let them know I was interested. I filled out the adoption questionnaire on line plus a more detailed one sent to me via email. They said we were the type of people they were looking for to adopt one of their kittens. Asked them the price and the kitten was $800 plus $300 shipping to the nearest airport or $400 for delivery to my door. Payment was to be by Zelle or Apple Pay. Performed the transfer via Zelle to njifouotafadima@gmail .com on 29 Apr and let them know I had transferred the funds. They asked for a copy showing the transfer had gone through. They asked me when we wanted the kitten and I said ASAP. They said they would ship it the next day and that we would get the shipping info in the morning. The morning of 30 Apr the shipping document was in my mailbox. Shipper was Express Shipping Center, (661) 235-5488, tracking number EXP.SC020823696838-US. The kitten was due to be delivered to Southwest International Airport in Fort Myers, FL with a delivery time of 4:30 pm. My wife and I left a little early to find the pick-up location. At approx 3:15 pm my wife received a text message stating the kitten had been taken off the airplane in Nashville, TN, by the Nashville Tennessee Pet Control Department. We were told refundable insurance was required in the amount of $1000 cash and that upon receipt of the kitten they would refund $950. Telephone number provided was (571) 645-5668. My wife called the cattery to ask about this. They answered the phone but the speech was extremely hard to make out, basically unintelligible. She told them we were returning home and I would call about 6 pm. She also called (571) 645-5660, but there was reached an answering machine. She left her number and a message. As soon as we got home I contacted The Nashville Airport Authority asking about the Pet Control Department. They informed me it did not exist. I also researched Express Shipping Center and discovered they were a scam shipping company associated with pet scams Their phone number (661) 235-5488 was listed in the scam notice. I called the cattery asking about the insurance. He repeated the refundable $1000 requirement stating upon receipt of the kitten we would get $950 back. I told him that I would buy a $29 commercial insurance policy for the required sum and send him a copy. He repeated the demand and went int a song and dance that it was my responsibility if the cat died. He again demanded I send the money. I again informed him that I would not send the money. He hung up the phone. I sent them an email concerning resolving the issue. I gave them 3 options: 1) Refund the $1100; 2) Deliver the kitten to my house and I would give them the $100 upon receipt; or 3) Give me their address and my daughter would drive up and get the kitten and they would be required to refund the $300 paid for shipping. They have not replied via email, text or phone call. This transaction involved two scams: Munchkin Cat Cattery and Express Shipping Center.

Performed what I considered due diligence by researching Munchkin Cat Cattery and found no negative information. Contacted cattery by email on 28 April 2025 concerning purchase of Eva requesting info on kitten and shipping costs. Was quoted $800 for kitten and $300 for shipping to nearest airport or $400 for delivery to residence. Was sent questionnaire, completed it and returned it. They approved us for purchase. They asked us when we wanted the kitten and we stated as soon as possible. Payment was to be sent via Zelle or Apple Pay. We sent the payment to them via Zelle, account [email protected]. They asked for confirmation of payment and we sent the info to them. They said they could ship the next day and that we would receive shipping info in the morning. We received shipping info the next morning showing shipment by Express Shipping Center, tracking number EXP.SC020823696838-US, with arrival in Ft Myers, FL @ 1630. We drove to Ft Myers and at approx 1500, we received a text from the cattery saying the cat had been removed from the shipment in Nashville by the Nashville Tennessee Pet Control Department pending receipt of a $1000 cash insurance payment that would be returned to us minus $50 upon receipt of the kitten. A phone number was provided on the text of (571) 645-5660, but it went to an answering machine and the call was never returned. Immediately called the cattery but the response was hard to understand so told them we were returning home and would call them from there at 1800. Once home started researching again. Called Nashville Airport Authority and was told there was no such organization. Researched Express Shipping Center and found entries stating identifying it is a scam used by pet scammers for fake shipping documents. Called the cattery regarding the insurance and they repeated the requirement for $1000 refundable insurance, I told them I would by a $29 commercial policy and send them a copy. Individual got upset and repeated requirement for the insurance payment and I refused to send it. They hung up on me. Attempted to call them back and there was no answer. Sent them an email stating that this could be resolved in one of three manners: 1) refund of $1100; 2) delivery to door and I would pay the extra $100 upon receipt; or 3) provide me their physical address and my daughter would drive up to pick up the kitten. There has been no return correspondence via email, text, or phone.

This website for Munchkin Cats lists many options for munchkin cats of various colors all around 11 weeks. When you submit an inquiry about a cat, you will receive a text within the minute telling you the cat you want is available. They will go on to tell you that they will provide "a litter box and scoop, food and water dishes, toys for entertainment, sample of food." When you look up the address on the website, you'll find it's a cat shelter, The Denver Cat Company. Woman I spoke to there said they get many calls because of this fraudulent website and have been trying to have their address removed from this site. I did not go through with the purchase and would warn anyone else to be VERY careful when shopping for a munchkin online.
