I took a picture of the entire message (attached) and took notes throughout the entire case (phone call, letting them control my computer), total duration ~2.5 hours. Through www.helpme.net, they accessed my computer to "help remove traces of the virus." Nancy Woods ('reachable at this number' 1-877-607-0366 ext. 1020), the IT specialist with whom I spoke, showed me through www.microsoftvalidator.com (website with lots fake tabs and buttons) that she was a Microsoft employee and certified. While believing this was legitimately from Microsoft, I followed and paid for the "MTA3MP MTA 3 Months Plan" (available on http://mtasoftware-com.3dcartstores.com/) and signed agreement documents from rightsignature.com. They gave me a special offer that allowed this plan offer "12 months of technical support" and "lifetime security to both my computer and the network."
After I made a credit card payment of $299.99, they "went to work protecting my computer and removing virus traces" and told me I could leave my computer and come back in a half hour. Instead, I sat on the side (to avoid facial recognition login) and watched them go online through my Google Chrome browser to search and download several free software from websites including filehippo.com, piriform.com (CCleaner v5.32.6129), and support12345.com. They also added extensions (Adblock Plus) to my Chrome. They added desktop shortcuts for CCleaner and Windows Defender to my desktop and later explained how these were installed and will protect me. Every single thing they added to my computer was free and available online!
