I am not sure if this is legit or not, but while I was attempting to obtain a VIN report on a motorcycle I was selling, I became aware of the potential scam. Basically you use the website they send you, and they person who directs you to their site receives a commission. Also, the person who buys the VIN report may potentially download malware and/or viruses.

Here is what the email looked like:

Hello, I was reaching out to you about your bike for sale. Do you have a current motorcycle history report for it? If not, I suggest getting one at:

MotoCheck365.com

When I was selling my motorcycle I got one from there to show people that were interested. It was only $19 which is half the cost of Carfax($40 or more). It will show if there are any issues with it. The peace of mind it gives for such a large sale is a bonus too.

It will verify that it has not been in any bad accidents, that it has a clean title and that it has not been stolen. There are so many scams out there. People are more likely to look at it with a report provided.

I listed my motorcycle on Craigslist for sale. A man with an email [email protected] emailed me telling me he is interested in my motorcycle but would need me to purchase a vehicle history report [like carfax for vehicles]. Since Carfax doesn't do reports on vehicles, this man claiming to be Gary Dent told me to go to www.motocheck365.com and purchase one because it will help me sell my motorcycle because it will provide buyers useful information. The man claiming to be Gary Dent told me the reason he suggests it is because it is less expensive than the others. I went onto motocheck365.com, paid the $*** fee and got a worthless piece of paper with no letter head or company name that says nothing. Then a video pops up on their site advising me I've just been scammed. The video explains the identical situation I experienced. Turns out whoever directs people to motocheck365.com gets a commission for steering people to their website. The website may in fact be Gary Dent's.
