We arranged a tour of an apartment managed by this company through Zillow. It was a self guided tour and all our interactions with the company were through text and email. After the tour we applied to rent the apartment and paid for a background check, 45 dollars. We also gave them copies of our last three paystubs as proof of income. They called us a few days later saying we were approved. That is when things got sketchy, they were insisting we go to a third party site through a link they sent us and pay first months rent and security deposit, before we could sign the lease. When we said we were uncomfortable doing that without having signed the lease first they got angry and kept insisting that we couldn't even look at the lease until paying. We then suggested we meet in person so that we could discuss with them the lease terms and such, and they said they did not have a physical address, and that they were solely online. When we said we wouldn't be paying them money until after signing a lease they got angry again and then said that we could look at a copy of the lease through a third party website but couldn't sign it until we paid the money. That is when we decided it must be a scam and blocked their number.
