They call saying they are MLGW (caller id shows MLGW real#) Leaves a message saying our company is 3 months behind in its bill and they have sent out 3 notices that have been ignored. Cut off is today. Please call. I called with my bill payment file in front of me. I pay on 2 accounts - the one they are calling on is a small account. It runs about $85-90 a month. They ask for a phone number attached to the account. The first number I gave they said was wrong (and it was - just checking), so I give the correct phone number and they tell me the service address. They ask for the account number - I give it to them since they knew the service address. They are saying yes, I am 3 months behind. I say, no, I am paid up. They say their records say otherwise. They ask for my check number that the bill was paid, I give them the check number; but no checking account information, When I questioned further, I was transferred. Same thing all over again. While on hold, I had the opportunity to bring up my account on line and it did not show a past due balance. My paper bills also did not show a past due balance. Then he said that the cut off folks were already dispatched and that to stop it, I would need to make a payment. I asked how much they wanted and they said $1,998.53. Now 3 months past due for that account would have been $300 max plus some late fees - so I knew for certain it was a scam. I called MLGW's general info number on my paper bill - 901/528-4270 (which was the caller id#) and tell them what just happened. Ironically, they did not want the phone number. Said they had gotten numerous calls the day before (Thursday) and today and were aware.
