I paid Michael K Harris $30,000 for labor and $10,000 for supplies to remodel my home. Agreement was made in April 2021. Money paid by check in May 2021 and June 2021. As of today, the home is still not completed and Michael refuses to return moneys owed for labor and supplies.

Mike Harris came to the house so we could interview him for the job of doing a repair/remodel job due to 2 water leaks from our hot water tank. We decided since I am an 83 year old widow, that we would go ahead and take out the tub and put a walk in shower since we were replacing the floor in the bathroom. I borrowed the money to do this so I would have a safer bathroom. I told him once he started the job, we did not want him to leave and go somewhere else to work. We wanted him to stay on the job until it was finished and he said it would be 3 weeks at the most! Mike told me he needed $7,500.00 up front. I was not aware that a reputable compay does not do this to a client. I wrote the check for $7,500,00 on October 13, 2021. He cashed the check on October 14, 2021. He was to come to work the following Wednesday, October 20th. He called that morning and said his father had died. We got excuse after excuse (covid being a popular one.....first a son had been exposed, then he had it, then a co worker, etc). I wrote him a message on his phone on November 30, 2021 who would do the job and I wanted my money back. He had never been to the house to work on the job. He said he was planning on coming the next day. He spent 3 hours on Dec 1, 2021 and 3 hours on Dec. 2, 2021 and that has been it. I again messaged him on his phone on December 30, 2021 and told him again that I wanted my money back. He proceeded to tell me he has a policy of 60 day cash return and also he has a restocking fee of 30%! To this day I have not received any money, I have not signed a "contract" as he said. I do not have the money to finish the job and I have a lot of material, flooring, wall tile, new stool, 2 ceiling fans to install and a heater/light/fan, faucets, and shower equipment for the bathroom. I definitely NEED to get my money back. It seems to me that keeping my money is illegal. I wrote on the check it was a down payment for the bathroom and closet project. Can you please help me or at least make an honest person out of him? I would hate for another person, let alone an elderly person to get taken by him. Thank you. Jeanette M. Spilman
