I was contacted this week by a representative via phone from Mitchell negotiation services/ National Health Quest. The individual left me a voicemail on my cell phone requesting me to call them back to settle an outstanding bill for prompt payment within 10 days. When I returned their call, I was told to provide a reference number and my tax ID number and a written proposal would be sent to me to obtain information to make a payment toward money that I owed. The representative referenced me as the patient, including my first and last name. The individual I spoke asked for my tax ID information. I informed them that I would not be providing this person information and inquired as to what services were provided for the bill in question. The individual was unable to provide me with that information and stated that this was information regarding my insurance coverage from Progressive. I informed them that I do not have progressive insurance and expressed my feelings that this was a fraudulent call and ended the phone conversation. This experience was very concerning to me as older adults, and potential people with disabilities may be tricked into providing personal information by this organization.
